Relief for throat and voice

It takes time to make something good. Since 1850

Grether’s Pastilles are made with a great deal of care, quality, tradition and craftsmanship. You can taste it and feel it from the moment they touch your lips. Based on an original English recipe from 1850, they contain selected raw materials that are combined in a complex manufacturing process. With essences of sun-ripened berries and blossoms, effective glycerine and high-quality agar-agar, Grether’s Pastilles have a particularly soothing effect on sore throats, hoarseness, strained voice and a dry mouth. The carefully processed ingredients soothe irritation and coat overtaxed vocal cords like a protective film. Grether’s Pastilles develop their full-flavoured fruity taste thanks to the gentle and time-intensive production process and the unique three-month maturing process in special climatic chambers.

We age every single pastille for 15 weeks to develop its unmistakeably intense taste and soothing effect undisturbed.

Grether’s Pastilles

Blackcurrant

Grether’s Pastilles Blackcurrant – our traditional original product with pure natural blackcurrant juice.

The incomparable fruity yet mild essence gives our soothing pastilles their distinct flavour and deep dark colour. Grether’s Pastilles Blackcurrant are available with sugar and as a sugar-free version sweetened with maltitol syrup and acesulfame-K. Take Grether’s Pastilles Blackcurrant as soon as you notice the first signs of discomfort and enjoy the intensive fruit flavour of blackcurrants with all your senses.

Blackcurrants are one of the most vitamin C-rich fruits and have been known as a medicinal plant for many centuries. They support the immune system and have an anti-inflammatory effect. They contain ingredients that strengthen the gums, soothe sore throats and ease the first signs of a cold.

The thorn-free blackcurrant bush is a wild plant that grows approx. 1 to 2m high in moist shrubberies and lowland forests, and is also cultivated in gardens. The ripe berries are harvested from July to August in Central Europe. Blackcurrants are often made into jams, jellies and juices, and are used as a fruity fragrance in the perfume industry. The intense-tasting berry is available as a liquor or syrup under the French name cassis.

Only sun-ripened fruits are used in Grether’s Pastilles. The fruits are only harvested when they have fully developed their intensive aroma and soothing effect. The berries are then carefully hand-picked and processed with care and expertise.

Redcurrant

Grether’s Pastilles Redcurrant sugar-free – a fresh, exotic combination of pure natural redcurrant juice and vitamin C. Refined with passion fruit, these soothing pastilles have a seductively delicious taste. Enjoy Grether’s Pastilles Redcurrant regularly to soothe an overtaxed voice and the early signs of a sore throat and mouth. The wonderfully fruity taste is as invigorating as taking a little time out.

Redcurrants have the same healing powers as blackcurrants. With their high vitamin C content, the colourful fruits strengthen the immune system, especially when suffering from a cold. They have an anti-inflammatory effect, soothe sore throats and provide relief for hoarseness and vocal cord irritation.

The redcurrant is a close relative of the blackcurrant and a popular garden plant. It can be found almost all over Europe. However, it is only rarely found in its wild form in damp forest soils. The translucent red fruits have a tart, refreshing taste and can be eaten raw, used for desserts and cakes or made into juice, jellies or jams.

To obtain the pure natural redcurrant juice required to produce Grether’s Pastilles Redcurrant, only ripe fruits are harvested. The exquisite quality of the berries ensures an incomparably delicious, long-lasting flavour.

Grether’s Pastilles

Elderflower

Grether’s Pastilles Elderflower sugar-free – the tart, fruity treat with extracts of elderflower and lemon balm. Combined with pure natural apple juice, the selected ingredients ensure a sensational taste of spring. When the first signs of a husky voice and throat irritation kick in, treat yourself to a Grether’s Pastille Elderflower and enjoy the soothing effect in your throat and mouth. The floral aroma provides instant refreshment and gives your voice a new lease of life.

Elderberry is used as a herbal medicine, primarily to treat colds and flu. The flower’s essence contains valuable ingredients and has a refreshing and soothing effect on irritations and inflammations. It is used to prevent hoarseness and a dry mouth.

Elderberry is considered one of Europe’s oldest medicinal plants. As early as in ancient Greece, the berries and flowers were being used by Hippocrates to treat various ailments. Thanks to Father Kneipp, who appreciated the variety of uses of the elderberry, and Hildegard of Bingen, who recommended a drink made from elderberry for its sweat-inducing effect, the plant is still firmly established as a therapeutic agent in today’s folk medicine. The (black) elder bush can grow up to 11m high. The white and spicy-scented elderflower begins to blossom towards the end of May. The black berries ripen during late summer and, although poisonous in their raw state, they can be made into juice and syrup. Both the flowers and the berries can be used to make essences and tea.

To make Grether’s Pastilles Elderflower, sun-ripened flowers are picked and carefully selected from local elderberry trees. A syrup obtained in a complex process gives the pastilles their pleasant floral note and special aroma.

Grether’s Pastilles

Blueberry

Grether’s Pastilles Blueberry sugar-free – the intensive fruity indulgence with pure natural blueberry juice. The full-bodied flavour develops soothingly on the palate and guarantees an extra special taste sensation. Discover the soothing effect of Grether’s Pastilles Blueberry as soon as the first signs of discomfort appear. The concentrated blueberry taste is reminiscent of enchanted orchards and lowland forests and will make your mood blossom.

Blueberries play an important role in medicine due to their high concentration of various active ingredients. Extracts are still used in the manufacture of medicines today. Blueberries are attributed antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties as well as a soothing effect for mouth and throat inflammation thanks to their tannins.

The wild blueberry has been known as a medicinal plant since the Middle Ages. It is found throughout the entire northern hemisphere and its preferred location is primarily shady forests, heaths and moors. The branched dwarf shrub, which grows from 10 to 60cm high, yields its ripe dark blue soft berries from July to September. These fruits leave traces on the skin, tongue and teeth when picking and eating them. The much larger cultivated blueberry, which is descended from the American blueberry and has a light-coloured pulp, is usually grown commercially or on plantations. Blueberries can be eaten fresh or used in cakes, desserts, compotes and jams. They are also popular steeped in red wine, to make blueberry wine.

The pure natural blueberry juice that gives Grether’s Pastilles Blueberry their fruity flavour and intense taste is obtained from carefully hand-picked blueberries.
